To fulfil his wish, Thane schools remain open

"Don't declare holiday on my death, instead work an extra day, if you love me." This was one of the wishes of ex-president Dr Kalam. Respecting his wishes, all schools and educational institutes in Thane remained open on Tuesday, a day after his death in Shillong. Schools also ensured that students remember him as the People's President by involving them in several activities dedicated to him.During the morning assembly, Billabong school maintained a two-minute silence. "In 2008, our principal had received a letter from Dr Kalam and she took this opportunity to read out it to the students. A garlanded picture was kept at the entrance for everyone to pay homage," said Aditya Kalele of the school's media communication cell.Anand Vishwa Gurukul, situated in Raghunath Nagar, has decided to conduct reading sessions of Dr Kalam's autobiography – Wings of Fire. For the next one week, every evening, those interested can join the reading session at the institute's hall.Apart from this, Saraswati Vidyalaya high school will hold a science project competition in memory of the great scientist. Teachers of the school in Rabodi talked to students about Dr Kalam, his visions and his love for children, nation and his thirst for knowledge on Tuesday.Pramod Sawant, trustee of Shreerang school, said they maintained a two-minute silence and conducted prayers. "Someone so knowledgeable and respected for his patriotism and the youth connect that he built should be remembered by every generation within the nation."
