To benefit patients, Nerul hospital will have CT and MRI scan facilities
Quality machines at lesser prices are available in the market to choose from
Congress corporator Santosh Shetty moved a proposal for having CT scan, MRI scan and Cath-Caph lab at the civic hospital in Nerul which is under-construction. The suggestion was cleared by the standing committee during its weekly meeting on Wednesday.
Speaking on the proposal, NCP corporator Vaibhav Gaikwad, said, “Good and quality machines are available at reasonable costs in the market; we should not compromise on the quality of machines to be brought in.”
NCP’s Vikram Shinde said, “Before purchasing the machines for Nerul hospital we have to ensure that we have technicians to operate them.
We have machines in Vashi’s first referral unit but there are no operators; we have to even outsource sonography experts at Vashi hospital. So we have to do proper planning and recruit people for Nerul hospital.”
Shiv Sena’s Vijayanand Mane, added, “We have a tie-up with Fortis hospital. How many people have benefited from this tie-up is a big question mark.”
Shetty said, “Necessary changes in the building structure should be made now itself for keeping these machines, and space should be made available for Cath-Caph lab which will require 15,000-20,000 sq feet area.”
Dr Ramesh Nikam, in-charge of the health department, said, “We plan to start CT scan, MRI scan services in Vashi hospital as well. However, there is no space available right now.
Once Nerul hospital is operational, we can shift some departments to Nerul hospital and then start this facility in Vashi and other civic hospitals, in phases. It is necessary to have such facilities in Vashi as it is a centrally located place.”
