In the last 10 days, while one person died of leptospirosis, 26 new cases have been detected. Several cases of rain-related illnesses such as dengue, malaria and gastroenteritis were also reported in the city till July 26.

A 40-year-old woman, resident of GTB Nagar, Sion, died due to leptospirosis raising the death toll to three in the month of July this year. According to the BMC, she had a history of fever and myalgia for which she was taking treatment from a private medical practitioner in Chembur. The cause of death is type I respiratory failure due to acute respiratory distress failure (ARDS), multi-organ dysfunction with leptospirosis.

As per BMC's data, while there were two deaths and 23 cases between July 1 and 15, one death and 26 cases have been registered between July 16 and 26.

BMC's health department said, "A rapid house-to-house survey to identify similar cases with a history of fever has been started. So far 253 houses have been visited and 1,027 people have been screened."
