The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will soon undertake repair and resurfacing work on three major bridges in the city — the Keshavsoot bridge, the JSS bridge and the Curry Road bridge — at a cost of Rs11.32 crore. The proposal will be presented in the standing committee meeting on Wednesday.

According to SP Kori, chief engineer of bridges, the condition of the bridges is bad and rains have made it worse. "The bridges are in need of urgent repair. Once the work is approved, it should be completed in nine months," he said.

A special material — mechanised mastic — will be used for the repair.

The tenders for the repairs were first floated in 2012. However, not a single response was received. This year, once the project was re-tendered, it received a response from ME Infraprojects Pvt Ltd, who will be carrying out the work.

While BMC's budget was about Rs7.53 crore, the cost has worked out to be higher.

BMC, this year, has allocated Rs24 crore for foot overbridges, roads, subways and bridges in the budget.
