Train services were affected on Central Railways (CR) between Kalyan and Kasara due to derailment of a rail inspection van at Umbermali on Friday night following which commuters also protested at Vasind station with rail roko holding up a mail train.

Also along with this, harbour line services were disrupted for around 35 minutes due to engine of goods train at getting stuck at Kurla while it was heading to Trombay. However, cause of the engine getting stuck in not known yet but it was moved ahead by pushing.

This further led to services on up and down of harbour line running late by around 10-15 minutes on Friday evening for around one hour.

In case of CR, schedule of several mail trains were also affected due to derailment of rail inspection van. However, cause for the derailment will only be known after an enquiry into the incident is concluded. Further services were running normal after 12.42 pm.

CR in a statement said, "8-wheeler tower wagon that derailed between Kasara and Umbermali was rerailed and up line was restored at 12.42 pm. First train to cross the affected section was 12132 Sainagar Shirdi-Dadar Express."

Due to the incident, services were running between Kalyan and Asangaon only. However, from 06.05 am to 07.55 am suburban services were running upto Titwala only due to public agitation at Vasind, the statement of CR said.

Spokesperson for CR said, "There was no breach of safety. The derailment of tower wagon happened during maintenance block when no passenger or frieght trains are allowed in section. As per laid down procedure, an inquiry has been ordered to assertain the cause of derailment."

The spokesperson added, "In addition, we maintained suburban services up to Asangaon and provided stoppage to mail express trains and authorised commuters to travel. On our request, additional buses were also run by Maharashtra state transport."

Meanwhile, due to agitation there was a bunching up of long distance trains upto Igatpuri after which CR had to divert several long distance trains through another route.

Several trains coming into Mumbai from Kolkata, Varanasi, Guwahati and Gorakhpur had to be re-routed as a result, while the Manmad-Mumbai Panchvati Express had to be cancelled.

Along with this disruption on CR, Harbour line services were disrupted for around 35 minutes on Friday due to the engine of a goods train getting stuck at Kurla while it was headed to Trombay
