Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama’s visit to Mumbai University has almost been finalised. He will meet students at the university’s convocation hall at the Fort campus in February.

After US first lady Michelle Obama, the Dalai Lama will be the latest high-profile guest at the varsity. He will talk to students on ‘Ancient Wisdom, Modern Thoughts’. After the lecture, he will spend another hour interacting with students, university officials said.

Confirming the Dalai Lama’s visit, director of the Board of College and University Development Dr Rajpal Hande said, “Our invitation to the Dalai Lama has been accepted and he will be coming here on February 18.

Apart from interacting with students, he will also meet academicians from different departments. A visit by a world-famous personality is a prestigious thing for us.” According to varsity sources, more programmes are being planned for the visit.

Dalai Lama is both the political and spiritual leader of the Tibetan people. He frequently states that his life is guided by three major commitments: the promotion of basic human values or secular ethics in the interest of human happiness; the fostering of inter-religious harmony and the welfare of the Tibetan people; and focussing on the survival of their identity, culture and religion.

The Dalai Lama travels across the world to give lectures. On December 30, he will inaugurate the 78th Teerthandana Sanyasi Sammelan at the Sree Narayana Dharma Sanghom Trust, Sivagiri Mutt, Kerala. On January 9, he will speak on the different levels of happiness at the 30th anniversary of Tushita Dharma Celebrations in New Delhi.

Between January 12 and 16 in Uttar Pradesh, he will conduct a meet on Shantideva’s ‘A Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life’ (chodjug) and Kamalashila’s ‘The Middling States of Meditation’.
