While conducting the raids at several Regional Transport Offices (RTO) across the state in October and November last year the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) had discovered a scam in professional tax collections, alleged to be in crores, in the Thane RTO.

The ACB valued the total loss caused to the Thane RTO from 2009 to 2010 at Rs5.50 crores.

“During the investigations, it was revealed that the officials issued bogus state government documents and bank challans for collecting professional tax from commercial vehicles.” an ACB official said .

“There are no arrests so far in the Thane RTO case but preparation of the list of the RTO official, whose involvement has been indicated during inquiries, are in the process and they will soon be summoned for questioning,” said a RTO officer.
