Thane Municipal Corporation says have enough water, Ghodbunder locals disagree

As opposed to Thane Municipal Corporation's (TMC) claim that it has enough water to last until monsoon arrives and has only one day of water cut in a week, the Ghodbunder (GB) Road area is still facing severe water scarcity. Residents have said they have to spend large amounts on water-tankers, required every day, since the past month.

Since the month of March, TMC has 24-hours of water cut every week that is every on Friday. While most residents are accepting of this, residents of Ghodbunder Road are a harried lot. They allege that the situation on the ground is worse than it sounds.

While the problem seems to be lasting only during Friday's water shutdown, it continues further as the water pressure is very low for the next two days. "We have to go without water for three to four days a week and ordering water tankers costs us around Rs 1 lac a month," he adds.

"Though the water supplied by TMC was not enough, the situation has gone from bad to worse in the past two months," says Prabhakar Reddy, Unnathi Greens, Ghodbunder Road. "We have our own boring water whose electricity bill is Rs 1 lakh a month," he adds.

The society's G5-G6 buildings has 200 flats and spends almost Rs 12,400 every day on ordering water tankers since the water cuts reigned in. "We order ten water tankers, which costs Rs 8,000 and Rs 4,400 on two tankers of drinking water," he says.

Another resident Chandrashekhar Shetty, secretary, Swastik Residency, GB road reiterates the same problem. He says that anyways there is water shortage in his society due to uneven supply. "TMC is supposed to give us water for three hours everyday but at times there is supply for an hour and at times there is no water at all," says Shetty.

When contacted a Ravindra Khadtale, TMC's water supply department said that they have taken note of this issue. "We will try to revert to the problems of these societies as soon as possibl," he said.
