A video recorded by a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) activist has gone viral with allegations on Thane commissioner of police, Parambir Singh, and his senior subordinates from the crime branch for allegedly detaining four persons in a false case of possession of firearms and a plot to kidnap a former Indian Revenue Services employee and a corporate bigwig.

Last year, on April 8, senior inspector from Vakola police station Sunil Joshi received a phone call from deputy commissioner of police, (Thane crime branch) Parag Manere, who said he wants them to detain four persons from a lodge and hand them to the team of his police personnel without making a station diary entry. The Thane crime branch, after pressurising the inspector, asked him to hand them over to their kin and they later arrested the four persons on the same day. On April 12, the Thane crime branch showed that the accused were possessing arms and were plotting kidnapping of a former IRS employee and a well-known person from corporate world.

"DCP Manere and his accomplices did not know that the deceased senior inspector Joshi had entered the details in the station diary regarding the pressure to hand them the four persons without maintaining the diary," said Ketan Tirodkar, PIL activist.

"So, I filed a PIL in this regard and I was approached by DCP Manere as well as ACP Nagesh Lohar, who gave me Rs2 lakh to not to attend the hearing which I have deposited in the Bombay HC. They further said Thane commissioner Parambir Singh will pay me Rs25 lakh after the disposal of the PIL," said Tirodkar. He added that he has been working for the interest of the society and has been bringing to light the incidents of government apathy.

When questioned, commissioner Singh said, "We will give the answer to the court." Joshi was shot dead by his junior inside the police station last May.
