In a first, on Tuesday, Ganpati idols worshiped by Thailand residents were immersed at Girgaum Chowpatty. The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) had hosted 500 foreign tourists at Girgaum Chowpatty, giving them an opportunity to study the culture of Maharashtra.

Priti Jaidee, a resident of Thailand, brought her handmade clay-based Ganesha idols. Accompanied with 50 other tourists from the Ganesh Museum in Thailand, the devotees of Lord Ganesha visited various temples across the country in the last 12 days, and reached Mumbai on the day of the immersion. Lord Ganesha is widely worshipped in Bangkok and Thailand. Several temples have been dedicated to the Elephant God.

"We believe that Lord Ganesha has a a lot of power to create and destroy the universe. We are his ardent followers. We made clay idols so that we can pray and talk to people about Ganpati. I am happy that we could immerse our Ganpati idols in Mumbai," said Jaidee.

"The biggest festival has to be celebrated in a very lavish way. We have gathered here for peace and harmony between two countries.
