Telangana stir forces load-shedding in Maharashtra

The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) has introduced load-shedding of between two-and-a-half hours to five-and-a-half hours on a temporary basis in the state, as there is reduction in power supply of 2,500 MW due to the Telangana agitation and glitches at the generation sets at Parali, Koradi and Chandrapur in the state. 

Movement of coal by rail for thermal power stations has been adversely affected due to the statehood stir. 

An MSEDCL official told DNA that although urban parts of Pune city would not be affected, there would be load-shedding in rural electricity divisions of Mulshi, Manchar and Rajgurunagar of Pune district. 

The MSEDCL gets 3,500 MW power from the central quota. However, power generation of 2,000 MW at Korba thermal plant is affected and the MSEDCL is not getting 700 MW from that plant as per the quota.

Power generation at other plants of the National Thermal Power Company (NTPC) has been affected as there are problems in supply of coal due to the Telangana agitation.

Ultimately, the MSEDCL is getting only 2,000 MW power from its central quota. 

Power generation at thermal power plants at Parali, Koradi and Chandrapur has also been affected, resulting in lower generation by 1,000 MW.  The MSEDCL has said the load-shedding is temporary and would be withdrawn immediately after the
situation becomes normal.
