In a bizarre accident at the Nhava Port, a tanker along with a crane caught fire, resulting in serious burns for two workers.

At 16:45 on Saturday, as the Great Ship Disha, a 400-metre long ship was being replenished with oil from a tanker, a spark emanated in the tanker.

Soon enough, a fire ensued on the tanker which then spread on the crane. “Two workers who were filling the oil onto the ship were injured,” an official from Oil and National Gas Corporation (ONGC) said. The two workers, Sanjay Gharat and Sar Kishen, were initially admitted to Gandhi Hospital, Panvel.

“Gharat was admitted with 50 per cent burns, while Kishen with 30 percent,” a Dr Gandhi, from Gandhi Hospital said.

“Gharat was referred tothe National Burn Centre at Airoli, as his condition was serious. Kishen is still with us,” Dr Gandhi continued.

However, officials from ONGC downplayed the entire incident. “The fire was brought under-control in an hour and the burns of those injured are minor,” the ONGC official said.
