“Many projects have been initiated to solve the matter of water scarcity which has been one of the major problems for the residents of NIBM Road,” he said. He was speaking at ‘Your Locality, Your Voice’, a DNA event held to highlight citizens’ issues and concerns at the Dhanraj Parmar hall in Wanavdi on Sunday.

Lonkar said various projects have been initiated at Parvati and Seminar Hills in Bibvewadi and at the forest land in Undri, which promise to eradicate the problems faced by residents of NIBM Road.

“After the water project at Warje is completed, some load of water supply from Parvati Hill will be diverted to NIBM Road area. A similar project at the Seminar Hill has started taking shape to address the water scarcity,” he said.

Lonkar said the water pipelines on NIBM Road, which have a diameter of 8 inches, would be widened to 12 inches to improve the flow of water to households.

Explaining the reason for the long-pending water scarcity problem in the area, Lonkar accused the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) of poor planning.

“NIBM Road is one of the developing areas of the city, wherein many residential buildings are constructed. The PMC should have had a future plan sketched,” he said.
