Taj brawl: Saif Ali Khan, NRI told to mediate
Advocate Girish Kulkarni, while informing the court about the mediation angle, said that the section was compoundable and thus, if the court permits, his client could opt for the option of mediation.
The Mumbai metropolitan magistrate court on Thursday directed actor Saif Ali Khan and an NRI businessman to a mediation centre in an alleged brawl case registered against the actor and two of his friends in 2012. This move was suggested by the actor's defence counsel, claiming that the section under which the actor was arrested was a compoundable one. The matter has thus been posted for mediation on July 27.
Advocate Girish Kulkarni, while informing the court about the mediation angle, said that the section was compoundable and thus, if the court permits, his client could opt for the option of mediation.
Kulkarni further informed the court that the prosecutor has suggested the same aspect to other accused.
According to the prosecution, the actor and his two friends were arrested following a complaint filed by the businessman, Iqbal Mir Sharma, after an alleged fight at the Wasabi restaurant inside Taj Hotel on February 22, 2012. They were later released on bail.
Saif was accompanied by Karishma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Malaika Arora Khan, Amrita Arora and some more male friends at the time. Police claimed that Saif assaulted the complainant when he had protested the loud chatter of the actor and his friends.
