Dr Rakesh Neve, Dr Vaishali Chavan and Dr Anupama Mane announced that after the symposium, awareness camps and cancer screening programmes would be held for rural women.
Ovarian (cervical) and breast cancer are potentially curable if diagnosed at an early stage. To focus on this, Breast and Gynaec Oncology (BG Group) will organise a symposium on January 2 at Ruby Hall Clinic’s cancer centre.
Dr Rakesh Neve, Dr Vaishali Chavan and Dr Anupama Mane announced that after the symposium, awareness camps and cancer screening programmes would be held for rural women.
The symposium will have experts from Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH), Dr RA Badwe, Dr Sudeep Gupta and Dr Amita Maheshwari with over 200 participants already registering for the symposium.
In India, one out of 22 women suffers from breast cancer. In urban India, 40% women suffer from cervical cancer, while in rural areas the incidence is as high as 65%.
“Many women, owing to lack of knowledge about the disease, shy away from regular check-up,’’ said Chavan. Neve added, “Women aged between 30 and 50 should undergo a check-up for cervical cancer. Generally, middle aged women are affected by the disease.’’
A special patient information screen will be inaugurated.
