Around 65 students from grade II to IX of St Mary's ICSE School in Mazgaon painted murals on the wall of BMC's Waste Treatment Plant opposite Haji Ali on Friday. The paintings are based on the theme of spreading awareness about being eco-friendly, saving water and global warming.

The students were supervised by their school's art teacher S Ravindranath. They were taken to the site at 9 am and were given free rein until 2.30 pm to unleash their creativity and colours on the wall. Three teachers and seven parents too volunteered for the activity by accompanying the students from the programme.

Ravindranath said, "The purpose of this programme is not just creating awareness among people but it will also help us inculcate these values in our students. Children till grade 6 don't know what is the meaning of global warming. With this activity, they will learn to save water and preserve nature. Painting also helps to release stress."

Enrico Rodrigues, a student of grade 8, said, "It was a good learning experience for all of us, especially the younger kids from grade 2 to 4. We enjoyed painting there."
