Earlier, a complaint regarding Kiran’s abduction was lodged by maternal uncle Uttam Kisan Patil of Dhanori in Vishrantwadi with the Airport police station.

According to the police, on Monday afternoon, Kiran had sent an SMS from his cellphone to his uncle stating that ‘Apka bacha hamare pass hai, main sham ko call karunga (Your son is with us and I will call in the night)’. Uttam lodged a police complaint.

The airport police and AEC team managed to secure the location of Kiran’s cellphone. Police inspector Sachin Sawant of AEC told DNA, “Initially, Kiran was demanding Rs25 lakh for his release. He had directed the money to be delivered in Katraj.”

On Monday night, the police were searching for him in the Deccan area after tracing his cellphone. Sawant said, “Kiran had switched off his phone in midnight. So, we couldn’t zero in on his location.” On Tuesday morning, Kiran called his uncle and told him of his escape from goons in Katraj area. Sawant said, “But we had traced his location in Deccan area and arrested him from Siddeshwar temple area,”

Kiran confessed to have plotted the plan, as he had lost his bicycle and wanted to find subterfuge to hide his deed.

Senior inspector Prakash Shaha of Airport police station told DNA, “Kiran is living with his uncle for last couple of years, as he is an orphan. He had taken admission in a city-based college but failed in the first year. His uncle is working in a private firm.”
