Universal School of Maharashtra Ghatkopar Samaj was sent a letter by the Minority Development Department asking why legal action should not be taken against them as they failed to show details of how their school got minority status. The department noticed this when a parent, Advocate Kailash Kedare, who was denied admission to his child by the school, asked for minority status details at Minority Development Department. However, the school claims they have replied to the concerned department with relevant documents.
The department had sent the letter on April 23. The letter states that on the basis of a complaint that school had made a fake minority status certificate, it was requested to show the original documents of getting minority status from this department within 15 days. However, the information was not provided at a given time. Hence it shows that no such status certificate was given from this department is proved says the letter. The letter also states that the school, by making a fake certificate, has cheated the government since 2014-2015. Hence, the department asked, why no legal action should be taken against them?
This letter of minority development department was only sent to school when the parent asked in Right to Information (RTI) to show the details of minority status is given to school which the department could not find in their records.
On the other hand, the parent had also filed RTI in February to school education and sports department whether the school was given NOC to start IGCSE board on which the department replied that they have not found any record of giving NOC to school.
Kedare, said, "When my child was denied the admission giving a reason that they are Gujarati linguistic minority, I found out at education department (North zone) that the school was issued the minority status certificate. However, when the information regarding the same was asked through RTI, the Minority Development Department replied that they cannot find any record of issuing minority status to the school. Also in another RTI, I got a reply from the education department that the school does not even have NOC to start IGCSE School."
When DNA contacted the school, the school authorities stated, " We would like to bring to your notice that the complaint is malicious, motivated and with a malafide intent by a disgruntled individual, whose child was denied admission to our school. We will also like to bring to your kind notice that we have replied to the concerned department with all relevant hard documentary evidence which we are sure will put all the doubts to rest. We have also stated to the concerned department that we will cooperate with the government authorities for any additional queries that they might have and require clarification on."
