State to implement Gopinath Munde Farmers Accident Insurance Scheme
This will see the ceiling on the existing accident insurance scheme for agriculturists increase from Rs1 lakh to Rs2 lakh. The tenure of the existing scheme ends on November 30.
To ensure social and economic security to farmers and their families, the state government has decided to implement the Gopinath Munde Farmers Accident Insurance Scheme 2015-16. It will cover accidental death of handicap of the farmers.
This will see the ceiling on the existing accident insurance scheme for agriculturists increase from Rs1 lakh to Rs2 lakh. The tenure of the existing scheme ends on November 30.
The scheme will extend to 1.37 crore farmers between the age of 10 and 75 years whose names are registered in the land records. It will cover road and rail accidents and eventualities like snake bite, murder, electric shocks, scorpion bites, Naxal attacks, animals attacks and lightning strikes. While accidental death, loss of two eyes or two limbs or one eye and one limb will be compensated with a payout of Rs2 lakh, partial disabilities like loss of one eye or one limb will see Rs1 lakh being granted.
The state government will pay the Rs27.24 crore premium for this scheme. Since 2005-6, when the scheme is being implemented, a total of 18,800 farmers have been given payouts worth Rs189 crore under this scheme.
