“The festival owes its origin to Eunice De Souza, former head of the English Department. Her passing away has been a blow to the literary community. Ithaka aspires to commemorate her memory with a tribute to her as its founder. We have organised a session in which poets and other panellists will read out her poetry and remember her work and contribution in the literary field” said Isha Jain, Festival Head Ithaka.

De Souza passed away at her Vakola residence on  July 29, 2017. She grew up in Pune and later went on to work in the English Department at St Xavier’s College after graduating from the Mumbai University(MU). Her students remember her as a fierce poet, a prolific writer and an encouraging teacher.

The theme of this year’s festival being centred on Noir, poems of De Souza would be read on June 16 between 2.30 and 4 pm.
