Three minor students charged for alleged involvement in the Secondary State Board (SSC) exams paper leak case, have approached the Bombay High Court, seeking directions for the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education to release their results.

A division bench of Justice BR Gavai and Justice MS Karnik issued notice to the board seeking a reply within three weeks. Advocate Kranti LC, appearing for the petitioners, said the two students had received a WhatsApp message, which contained the alleged paper.

The board, in June, called upon the students to appear for the inquiry and asked them to record their statements. The petition states that one of the students, who admittedly does not own a mobile phone, was told by officials to copy the statement which is part of the police charge sheet, and without giving any details of the inquiry or procedure to be followed, the board has withheld the results.

The paper leak case had come to light after a few students were found with question papers on their mobile phone at a school in Jogeshwari during the examination. The police investigation has revealed that the mastermind arranged for the papers for monetary benefits and to achieve 100% result for the students from his coaching class.

A teacher from the MVM Swami Muktanand High School in Andheri (W), had caught the students in March. The school was also an SSC examination centre.

On March 19, Social Science (73) and History-Political Science-Paper-1 exams were to be held from 11 am till 1 pm at the school. Around 10.35 am, the complainant saw three students in the school premises surfing their mobile phones and reading books. Finding their behaviour suspicious she confronted the students. The teacher then took the mobile phone of one of the students, who was from a Jogeshwari based school and found Social Science (73) and History-Political Science-Paper-1 question papers having N 246 code.

Over 20 people, most of them minors have been booked by the police, and they are facing proceedings either before the Juvenile Justice Board or the appropriate magistrate court.
