While claiming that that Congress has still a possibility to emerge as a single largest political party in the five-cornered contest in Maharashtra, the party's central leaders feel, the divorce with the NCP would help them to realise Rahul Gandhi's vision to rebuild and rejuvenate the party on its own."We may not accrue benefits in the coming elections. But in the long term we will reactivate party cadres, who had become extinct in the areas conceded to the NCP," said a Congress general secretary, who is known as a confidante of Gandhi. The leader said the party must now field young leaders on the seats vacated by the NCP breakup and let them groom their constituencies over another five years, even if they lose in the upcoming state polls.Meanwhile, Congress leaders from Uttar Pradesh have opposed the party conceding eight seats for the Samajwadi Party. "We are trying to build a base and wrest voters from the SP, and the leaders are hobnobbing with the same party in Maharashtra," said a leader.
