About a 1,000 women came together on Sunday to understand and acknowledge the importance of being a woman. The NGOs and associations attached to the Catholic churches in and around Pune participated in this programme to celebrate womanhood.

The programme was coordinated by the Diocesan Commission for Women and the Poona Diocesan Social Service Society to mark Women’s Day celebrations.

Over 1,000 women and girls from all walks of life belonging to different faiths and economic backgrounds walked on Solapur Road and Fatimanagar raising slogans. They gathered to celebrate the joy of being a woman, supporting each other to create a better world. 

The participants from self-help groups, mahila mandals and women’s cells came together to lend support to the Catholic churches and NGOs like Streevani, Hope Center and Maher among others in Pune,  Daund, Hadapsar, Pimpri Chinchwad, Vithalwadi, Yawat, Kondhwa, Satara and Wadgaonsheri.

The programme highlighted various aspects like discrimination against the girl child, the need to communicate with our children and protest against honour killings.
