Speeding business man hits traffic cop

The Bandra police arrested a Napeansea Road business man after he rammed his car into an on-duty traffic constable’s motorcycle near the toll plaza of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link bike on Sunday night.

Constable Pandurang Mulawade, who is from the Bandra traffic police station and lives in  Goregaon (East), sustained injuries on the head and other parts of the body. He is  recuperating in the ICU at Lilavati Hospital.

“We have arrested Vijay Shah, who runs a  hardware shop, for  rash driving, causing damage and hurt. It appears that Shah was not drunk, but we have  sent his blood sample for analysis,” said a police officer.

The incident took place at 11.30 when Mulawade, who was on  patrol duty, was headed the sea link on his bike. Around 200 meters before the sea link, Shah, who was speeding towards Worli in his Ford Ikon, hit the bike from behind.

“Shah had lost control of his car and hit the bike. Mulawade thrown off his two-wheeler. Passersby  rushed him to Lilavati Hospital,” said sub-inspector MD Dorkar of the Bandra police station.  

“Mulawade sustained injury in his head, arms and on the face, but he is not serious,” said Dorkar.

“We have seized Shah’s car and informed the RTO to check if the accident was due to human error or a mechanical failure.”
