The rake departed from New Delhi station at 7.55pm on Monday and reached Mumbai at 11.36am on Truesday, having travelled on the same route which is followed by the New Delhi – Mumbai Rajdhani Express Train No. 12952.
The undertrial 9-coach rake from Spanish rolling stock manufacturer, Talgo, completed its Delhi to Mumbai leg, which Western Railways claimed was a success.
The rake departed from New Delhi station at 7.55pm on Monday and reached Mumbai at 11.36am on Truesday, having travelled on the same route which is followed by the New Delhi – Mumbai Rajdhani Express Train No. 12952. It also observed the same permanent and temporary speed restrictions as well as the sectional speeds of Rajdhani Express Train No. 12952, said WR in a statement.
While the existing Rajdhani Express takes 15.50 hours from New Delhi to Mumbai Central, the Talgo rake took 15:41 hours. While the average running speed of Rajdhani Express (New Delhi-Surat) is 89.76kmph, the Talgo made this leg running at an average speed of 106.52kmph between New Delhi and Surat.
A large contingent of WR officials including its general manager GC Agarwal and divisional railway manager Mukul Jain were at hand at Mumbai Central to receive the train. It made some bystanders to quip whether it was a trial of the rake or whether the railways had already made up its mind to buy the Spanish rake.
