The wall along JJ Hospital in Sandhurst Road under the BMC’s B ward has got a new look thanks to an initiative taken by the civic body under the Cleanliness Survey 2018. Some of the walls along Ramchandra Bhat Marg have been adorned with digital paintings.

As part of the Cleanliness Survey 2018, the BMC has been carrying out painting work across the city to spread the message of cleanliness. Going a step ahead, the B ward has got digital non-PVC wall paintings which are long-lasting and can be easily cleaned.

Uday Kumar Shiroorkar, assistant commissioner, B ward said, “Usually, the newness of the painting fades away after just a month or two due to various reasons including gutkha or paan stains.” He added that these new paintings can be cleaned using water giving them a fresh and original look at all times.

At present, around 1,000 sq feet of the wall has been painted by the ward. “We want to check its durability and visibility and accordingly we will decide to paint other walls,” added Shiroorkar.

Kaushik Saha, one of the officials from Vedic Infrastructure that painted the wall, said, “The cost of the painting is a little high in comparison to regular wall paintings. However, its durability is much higher than the regular one.” He added that it would prove to be a cost-effective measure in the long run.
