Songs piturised on Nanda became very popular

Noted actress of yesteryears Nanda, 75, died at her Andheri residence on Tuesday following a cardiac arrest. Easily one of the most charming and talented actresses of the Hindi film industry, Nanda wooed her fans with excellent performances in a host of films, including Hum Dono, Teen Deviyan, Jab Jab Phool Khile, The Train, Ittefaq, Gumnaam etc.

Daughter of famous actor-director Master Vinayak Karnataki, Nanda was related to veteran film-maker the late V Shantaram, who gave her the much-needed break in the hit film Toofan and Diya in 1956. Her performance came in for rave reviews after which she never looked back.

Not only most of her films, which were released in the '60s and the '70s were hits, but the songs picturised on her also became very popular and continue to be so.

According to Manohar Iyer, an authority on Hindi film music, the hit songs included `Yeh sama, sama hai pyarka' (Jab Jab Phool Khile - music by Kalyanji Anandji), `Allah tero naaam' (Hum Dono - Jaidev, `Chali chali re patang' (Bhabhi - Chitragupt), `Likha hai teri' (Teen Deviaan - SD burman), `Nana Karte Pyaar' (Jab Jab Phool Khile), `Ek Pyar Ka Nagma' (Shor - Laxmikhant-Pyarelal), `Mujhe Gale Se Lagaalo (Aaj Aur Kal - Ravi), `Wadiyan mera daman ( Abhilasha - RD Burman), `Mujh se Bhala Ye kajal tera (The Train - RD Burman), `Kabhi tera daman' (Need Hamari khwab Tumhare - Madan Mohan), Bhaiya Mere Rakhi (Chhoti Behan - Shankar Jaikishan) and `Tehriye Hosh Mein' (Mohabbat Isko Kehte Hai - khayyam).

She was last seen in 'Prem Rog' in 1983. She was briefly engaged to noted director Manmohan Desai who died under tragic circumstances in 1994 and she remained unmarried ever since.
