MUMBAI
The Swargate police arrested a social worker, Nazma Azim Shaikh (25), on Monday for allegedly stealing mopeds from different parts of the city.

The police seized six mopeds, together valued at Rs1.80 lakh, from Shaikh’s possession on Tuesday. Acting on a tip-off,
Constable Subrao Lad and plainclothes policemen held vigil at Jedhe Chowk. When Shaikh arrived, the police asked her to furnish documents of the vehicle.
Senior police inspector Ram Pathare of Swargate police station told DNA, “When asked to furnish the documents, Shaikh started giving elusive answers to the policemen. Following this the policemen took her to the police station.
During interrogation, Shaikh confessed that she had stolen six mopeds from different parts of the city over the last 3 months.”
The police said that Shaikh gave three mopeds to her relatives, while she sold the other three.
Explaining Shaikh’s public life, Pathare said, “Shaikh is socially active and runs a self-help group in the city. She also duped several people by posing as a bank agent. We are probing her cheating activities as well.” Man steals donation boxes
The Swargate police arrested Babul Shahajan Shaikh (21) for allegedly stealing donation boxes containing Rs3,000 from Laxmi Mata Temple in Sarasbaug area in the wee hours of December 3.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by senior police inspector Ram Pathare of Swargate police station laid a trap near Sarasbuag and arrested Shaikh. The police have recovered Rs1,100 from his possession.
