A portion of the police quarter building in Andheri came crashing down on Saturday morning. Nobody was injured in the incident that occurred on the top floor of the four-storey building, located close to DN Nagar police station.
“The incident occurred while the public works department (PWD) was carrying out repair work,” an official attached to the police station said.
The PWD has been conducting maintenance of the around 30-year-old building and the police station since past 10 days. As part of the work, which will go on for a month, column beams are being strengthened and tiles are being changed.
“The ceiling plaster, it appears, had become heavy, leading to its fall. So, as a precautionary measure, we will remove all such ceiling plasters on priority to avoid any untoward incident,” CB Patil, PWD executive engineer, said.
