One of the three operation theatres of KEM Hospital’s orthopaedic department which were shut as a precautionary measure from Saturday after two maggots were found dead in a non-sterile area, will open on Wednesday. Refuting the news that the OT was closed because of dead pigeons and maggots were found in the AC duct of the operation theatre, Dr Pradeep Bhonsle, the head of the department, orthopaedic, KEM hospital said, “There was no dead pigeon or dead rat. It was just dust in the false ceiling. Since we found two dead maggots in the non-sterile area where patients keep shoes, we decided to be extra careful and did the cleaning.” Dr Bhonsle further added that they kept one of the three operation theatres closed from Saturday to Monday as they were waiting for cleaning report from the microbiology which is a routine precautionary measure. “We take the highest precautionary measure and such news is disturbing,” added Dr Bhonsle.
