Shiv Sena is the traitor, not us: BJP

As senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena are all set to discuss the cracks in their alliance on Thursday in Aurangabad, the former has prepared a detailed report to turn the tables on Sena. The report, which will act as the base for BJP’s arguments during the discussion, clearly states that it was Sena, who ditched the BJP in the recent Aurangabad municipal corporations polls.
Sena workers had attacked homes and offices of local BJP leaders after the BJP’s Raju Shinde refused to resign as the chairman of the standing committee in the Aurangabad municipal corporation, to make way for the Sena’s candidate. What had further irked Sainiks was that Shinde bagged the post by defeating a Sena candidate with help from the Congress. The Sena called BJP a traitor and alleged that the party had a ‘nikah’ with the Congress.
However, a senior BJP leader alleged that it was actually the Sena who had a ‘nikah’ with the Congress in Aurangabad in 2005. “Aurangabad civic body has had five elections till date. In the first three elections, there was no alliance with Sena. In the 2005 election, the alliance took place only after Uddhav Thackeray requested Pramodji (Mahajan) for it,” said the leader.
“It was decided that the chairmanship of standing committee will be shared between us every two years. But, when our turn came, the Sena too fielded its candidate. We withdrew our candidate to keep the alliance intact. The next time, Sena did not field its candidate for the standing committee, but two Sena corporators voted for the Congress’ Abdul Sajed and defeated our candidate. It shows that Sena is the traitor in the alliance and not BJP,” he added.
The BJP leader further alleged that not only in Aurangabad, but also in the Cantonment municipal council, Fulambri assembly constituency and Jalna zilha parishad, the Sena officials voted against BJP candidates resulting in the BJP’s defeat.
When asked about Shinde’s resignation, the BJP leader said that he (Shinde) was ready to resign, but the Sena was being impatient and not ready to wait for two days.
