Vikas Mathkari and Sham Deshpande have been trying to derive mileage from the agitation to stamp their claim on the local BJP and Sena units, respectively.
With the elections of the Pune unit presidents of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena scheduled in the coming days, aspirants such as the BJP’s Vikas Mathkari and Sena’s Sham Deshpande were in the forefront of vandalism of public property on Monday.
Mathkari, a professor at the Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce, and Deshpande have been trying to derive mileage of the agitation to ensure their claims on the city unit presidencies of their parties.
BJP city unit president Girish Bapat recently resigned from his post. Mathkari and Yogesh Gogawale are in the race for the post.
Sena city unit chief Nana Wadekar also resigned recently and Deshpande is in the race for that post. The city unit chief’s post will be a power centre as the PMC elections will be held next year.
