The defunct Shakti Mills Compound where a photo journalist and a telephone operator were gang raped in separate incident last year, has now been secured by fencing and new gate.

The officials of the Public Works Department (PWD) informed the high court on Wednesday that they have completed securing of the outer wall of the mills' premises by fencing with barbed wire and a gate.

Justice Nitin Jamdar asked assistant official liquidator Rupa Sutar, to inspect the premises next week.

Sutar will inspect the work on April 30 and submit the report to HC by June 6.

"After the inspection, we will decide on commencement of phase 3 of clearing of the mills premises, " said justice Jamdar.

According to the PWD, the phase 2 cost Rs55 lakh.

The HC had set the phase wise clearing of the Shakti Mills premises while hearing the winding up petition of the defunct mill.

As per the three-phase plan set by the HC, phase one included clearing of the shrubbery and trimming of trees. The phase two included putting up of barbed fencing and securing the compound wall. Phase two involved, construction of sliding gates and security cabins.Phase 1 was completed in October 2013 for Rs17 lakh.

The third phase would involve pulling down of the structure inside the site which has become dilapidated and dangerous and lighting of the entire premises.

The HC asked BEST officials to be present on June 6.

The estimate cost for all the phase is approximately Rs 1.58 crore.
