It was a concert with a difference. Singer and TV personality Shaan sang Hindi film songs based on aankhen at a special fund-raising event to support the cause of a charitable eye hospital in Dharavi for children and the poor.

The event was organised on Sunday by the Aditya Jyot Foundation for Twinkling Little Eyes at the Tata Theatre, the National Centre for the Performing Arts.

Apart from the musical, the guests were treated to an exhibition of photographs by Hemanshu Sheth celebrating the beauty and pleasures of ‘vision’ & ‘colour’. There was also a performance by an orchestra of the visually challenged playing in the foyer to add to the spirit of the evening.

Veteran broadcaster Amin Sayani was the chief guest while columnist Anil Dharker and state police chief D Sivanandan were among the special guests.
The Aditya Jyot foundation was established in 2005 to focus on tackling eye problems in children. Later it expanded its activities to encompass all sections of society. Dr S Natarajan, managing trustee of the foundation, is a renowned eye surgeon with over two decades of experience in specialty eye care.
The charitable hospital in Dharavi will be fully equipped to offer free eye screening for children and elderly patients and will undertake activities like diabetic retinopathy screening as well as regular and general eye screening for all walk-in patients.
