This was announced by leader of opposition in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Aba Bagul on Wednesday.

Replicas of the Statute of Liberty, Great Pyramid of Giza, Leaning Tower of Pisa, Eiffel Tower, Coliseum of Rome, Stonehenge in England and the Taj Mahal would be set up in the garden. Bagul said the garden would be formally inaugurated on December 10.

The civic body would spend Rs2 crore on the project. The replicas would be installed around the jogging and cycling track of the garden.

The noted art director, Nitin Desai, who has been roped in for designing the replicas, has already started the work in Mumbai. “As these replicas are made of fibreglass and iron, they would not erode after exposure to the elements,” he said.

Bagul added that a replica of the famous Niagara Falls would also be set up at the garden. He expressed confidence that the replica garden would enhance the tourism quotient of the city.
