Seven people, including four women, were killed on the spot and around 85 others were injured when a truck they were travelling by overturned at Gadewadi village in Patan taluka of the district on Sunday afternoon.

The victims were a part of a marriage party. The police established the identity of six victims. The bodies of four victims were removed in the evening. A crane was pressed into service to remove the remaining ones. The condition of six injured was stated to be serious. They were rushed to the Patan government rural hospital and to the district government hospital in Satara.

Around 100 villagers, along with the bride, were travelling by the ill-fated truck (MH-08-8799). The bride, Vaishali Pandurang Pawar, and the truck driver, Eknath Pawar, were among the injured.
