Senior citizen duped with mobile tower lure

The NM Joshi Marg police registered a case of cheating against two persons for allegedly cheating a 72-year-old man to the tune of Rs 2,77,500.

The senior citizen was promised that a mobile tower will be built by the two persons and a rent of Rs 1,10,000 will be paid to him every month for it.

According to police, Dinkar Beloskar, a resident Siddhivinayak Annex in Lower Parel, was allegedly cheated by the two persons concerned after they approached him in between May to August 2016 and proposed to build a mobile tower on the private land belonging to Beloskar. The duo promised him that they will pay Rs 98,00,000 as deposit money and Rs 1,10,000 as rent every month.

“During the process, the duo demanded Rs 2,77,500 to complete the procedures. The money was taken in part, and when the senior citizen demanded the money back, he they only got their assurances. Following this a case of fraud was registered,” said a police officer from NM Joshi Marg police station.

“We have registered a case under section 420 (cheating) and 34 (common intent) of the Indian Penal Code and we are investigating the matter. The complainant has evidence that money was paid to the duo,” said Ahmad Pathan, Senior Inspector, NM Joshi Marg police station.
