Security overhaul in the city for the Lok Sabha elections has helped Thane cops arrest three culprits, who were absconding for over two decades, in separate cases this week.

In 1998 one Laxman Guher, from Thane beat up a local resident over a minor issue. Guher had attacked one Anant More from the area with hockey sticks over a quarrel. "More and Guher were walking on the road when the former brushed past Guher. Angered for being pushed, Guher beat up More mercilessly with sticks," says senior police inspector P C Giridhar, Vartaknagar police station. After the case was registered with the police, Guher went into hiding and was declared wanted by the Thane court.

In the second case, the Vartaknagar police registered a case against one Shankar Jondhale, resident of Shastrinagar in Thane. "In 1993, Jondhale worked as a delivery boy with one milk vendor in Thane and was also responsible for collecting money from the customers. One day he collected over Rs 5,000 from the customers and fled," said senior police inspector P Giridhar from Vartaknagar police station.

In another case in 1995 Trayambak Bhise, 55 who stayed at Lokmanyanagar in Thane eve-teased a girl who then approached the cops. The police lodged an eve-teasing case and Bhise since then left the area.
