Security has been beefed up and checking of passengers’ luggage been intensified at all the railway stations in Mumbai for the past couple days following the intelligence report that ‘Sikh’ terrorists of slain Bhindranwale group would sneak into the city to destabilise the final match of the World Cup being played at Wankhede stadium in Mumbai on April 2 and they will enter into city by railway route.

On receiving the intelligence report, the Mumbai railway police commissioner had conveyed the meeting of the police officers including two DCPs, seven ACPs and senior police inspectors of 17 police stations few days back.

The Mumbai railway police personnel in uniform with assistant from Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) officers, have been engaged in checking the bags and luggage of passengers coming in the city by trains.

Checking of baggage have been taking place at all major railway stations like CST, Dadar, Mumbai Central, Kurla Terminus, Bandra, Borivli, Thane, Kalyan and Panvel where most of the outstation trains are halting, said a police officer of Mumbai railway police.

Besides checking, the patrolling of armed police personnel with the help of RPF (Railway Protection Force) personnel has been intensified at all the railway stations and police personnel in civil dress are also patrolling the stations to keep `eye’ on the movement of suspects.

The railway administration has appealed to contact the government railway police control room on 23759201/23759283 or Railway Protection Force Control room on 22620800 if they find any suspicious activities at the railway stations, said the officer.However, when contacted Mumbai railway police commissioner TA Chavan refused to comment.
