According to the police, their sources told them of a 4-year-old girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted. The cops tried to seek more information about the girl's parents, but were unable to, as the child's father was sailing.

Senior police inspector SS Barade said: "We managed to get the details of the mother after we made a detailed inquiry with the doctors and convinced her to register an FIR on Friday, after which we arrested the accused."

The accused has been identified as 27-year-old Ramprasad, who, according to the police, has been abusing the girl by inappropriately touching her private parts for 8 days. The girl's mother got to know about the incident prior, when she quizzed her daughter who was looking perturbed and scared.

PI Barade added: "The girl told her mother about what she was going through, and was rushed to the hospital, where the doctor examined her and confirmed that she was sexual abused."

Ramprasad has been charged with sexual assault under relevant sections of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. He has been remanded to police custody for further interrogation.
