A huge scaffolding of an under-construction SRA project in Dharavi fell on around 30 hutments on Thursday morning. The residents were not injured but fire brigade personnel had a difficult time removing the scaffolding, which had been put up on a 15-storey building.
They are yet to remove all the bamboo poles. The roofs of the hutments of Gausiya Nagar on Dharavi 90 Feet road have been completely damaged. “I was sleeping when I heard a loud thud. In a fraction of second, there was no roof,” said Noorbanu Ansari.
It was the same experience for around 30 families, living opposite Kumbharwada. “Wind and heavy rain blew off the scaffolding of the under-construction SRA project. It must have been loosely tied,” said Noorbanu.
“But what about property damages?” said another resident Hayat Badshah, 50. He added that there was no assurance from the police about action against the builder or compensation for damages.
Sheraj Ansari, a resident of the area, joined volunteers to check for injured.
“When we asked the fire brigade officials to give us a copy of the report which they will be submitting to the police, they said it would take 15 days,” he said.
BP Awhad, senior police inspector of Shahu Nagar police station, said: “Since no one was injured, we have not registered a case.”
