According to the crime branch sources, two months ago they had arrested one Pankaj, the nephew of Guru Satam, for allegedly demanding Rs25 lakh from a builder. A case was registered in this regard at Dadar police station. The police later arrested one Puran Mishra from Dombivli in the same case.

"Investigation revealed this is a deep-rooted gang activity by the Satam gang and MCOCA was invoked in the case. Pankaj and Mishra's remand has been taken as per the Act and their interrogation revealed involvement of Bhushan, who was also part of the organised crime syndicate. The gang targeted businessmen and builders in the city. He was also in touch with his father, who is currently hiding in some foreign country," said a crime branch officer.

Bhushan, a local cable operator, was picked up on Wednesday night from his Kalachowkie residence. He was produced before the MCOCA court which remanded him in police custody till February 20.
