Sanpada resident robbed of valuables worth Rs 5.5lakh at gunpoint

Two bike-borne miscreants robbed Shivraj Narendra Dhaneshwar, 35, a Sanpada resident of gold bangles worth Rs5.5 lakh at Millennium Tower at gunpoint on Monday afternoon. The incident took place inside the compound of residential tower at sector 9 in Sanpada which is 500 metres away from Turbhe police station.

According to police, Dhaneshwar deals in gold jewellery and supplies gold bangles to retailers in the city. On Monday afternoon, he was returning after showing sample pieces to retailers in Nerul when the two miscreants who were already waiting inside the society stopped their bike in front of Dhaneshwar’s car forcing him to apply brakes suddenly. They put a gun to his head and asked him to handover the bag with the gold bangles. The two fled after taking the bag.

Police said that Dhaneshwar was carrying 220 gram gold. “This was his daily routine as he supplies gold ornaments to retailers in the city. The duo might have had knowledge of Dhaneshwar’s movements,” said an officer from Turbhe police station. Since the incident took place inside the society the involvement of security guards will also be checked. “We are looking at every possible angles to nab the robbers,” said the officer.

In another incident in Panvel, two bike-borne miscreants snatched a mangalsutra and gold pendant from Sanjita Hazare, a resident of sector 13, New Panvel, on the Panvel flyover.

Police have registered a case of robbery under section 392 of the IPC against unidentified persons.
