Samad Ismail Deshmukh visited Sayyed Ali Madar in hospital, say police

Investigations into the murder case of diesel mafia man Sayyed Ali Madar alias Chand, have revealed that Samad Ismail Deshmukh alias Salim, the man who had ordered his killing, had specific plans so that the police do not suspect his involvement.

Police sources claimed that Salim had visited the hospital twice and met Chand, so that nobody would suspect him.

“After being shot at P D’Mello road, Chand was rushed to St George hospital and was later taken to Bombay hospital. The interrogation sessions with Salim have revealed that he had planned to visit Chand at Bombay hospital after the incident, so that nobody would suspect him to be behind the incident,” said a crime branch official, requesting anonymity.

The official added that Salim had visited him twice and had also expressed his concern towards Chand. “Chand had also told us that he had asked his driver Shahnawaz to be stationed outside the hospital. The plan was to alert Salim on police’s movements and inform him immediately if Chand passes away,” said the officer.

However, this plan proved costly for Salim, as few eyewitnesses, who had seen Shahnawaz at the spot where Chand was shot, also informed the police that Shahnawaz had been spotted near the hospital.

“We then grilled Shahnawaz and he spilled the beans about the others involved in the crime. Shahnawaz was the one who had pointed to the shooters after Chand had stepped out of his office to take lunch,” said the official.

“It is also learnt that the two shooters Shahid Shah and Sagir Ahmed were in desperate need of money and hence agreed to take the supari. In order to make the shootout foolproof, the duo had also recced the spot and gathered basic knowledge about the entry and exit points before the crime was committed,” said another police official, who is investigating the case.
