With the work going on in full swing to convert the Chhatrapati Shivaji international airport into a world class airport, the local police station has been shifted from its previous location to a new four-storey swanky glass building near Hyaat hotel.

The new structure has been made keeping in mind the arrival of international passengers there. The police station under its jurisdiction covers around 7.5kms, having a population of around 1.5 lakh.

Officials said the earlier structure was in poor condition with not enough room to accommodate the police staff.

As compared to the old building, the new structure has an inviting effect. The building is centrally air conditioned with facilities like elevators, gymnasium and canteen for staff, which is generally not available at other police stations. The vicinity is also covered with closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) for better monitoring of the police station.

“Also a cleaning and maintenance staff of around eight people has been provided to the police station by GVK company, which built the police station,” said a police officer.
