The GRP has arrested the accused husband-wife duo - Vijay and Supriya Sawant and they have been booked under sections 336 and 44 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for kidnapping and for illegally causing harm to a person.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) of Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) has solved the case of a missing 2-year-old girl. Vaishnavi Dhawase (2), who was kidnapped from the CST main hall during the wee hours on August 27 has been traced back from Wadghar in Panvel and returned to her parents.
The GRP has arrested the accused husband-wife duo - Vijay and Supriya Sawant and they have been booked under sections 336 and 44 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for kidnapping and for illegally causing harm to a person.
According to "The accused were caught on CCTV abducting the child from CST station and then boarding into a taxi to Masjid Bandar. They were later traced from Wadghar, Panvel with the help of the rickshaw drivers and shopkeepers in Panvel," Niket Kaushik, railway police commissioner.
Five special teams were made and were deployed in different departments. Speaking of the incident, Kaushik said, "Vaishnavi was abducted when her mother - Varsha was in the main hall. The accused husband-wife duo befriended her and her daughter by offering her a saree. Later, the duo abducted after Varsha fell asleep, as when Varsha woke up, she couldn't find her daughter. The motive, however, is not clear," added Kaushik.
