RPF men find abandoned bag with Rs28,000 cash, 27 mobile handsets

Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, who were curiously looking out for bombs and explosives in empty local train compartments at Karjat station on Saturday evening, found an abandoned bag.

The bag contained Rs28,000 in cash and 27 brand-new mobiles belonging to a mobile shop owner.

The bag was returned to its owner, who lost it during the journey, after the due verification was carried out.

Narrating the incident, Akshay Kunjey, 20, a mobile shop owner at Murbad, said, “I was carrying the bag containing the mobile phones and cash. I boarded the Karjat bound train at Kalyan at around 3.50pm, along with my friend Dinesh. When the train reached at Bhivpuri railway station at around 3.38pm, I was busy with talking with friend and alighted there with him.”

He further said that when he came out of the station, he realised that he had lost his bag kept on the luggage rack of the second class compartment. He then rushed to station and shocked to find that the train was already left for Karjat. Then he met station master at Bhivpuri to narrate him about the incident and gave the descriptions of the bag. The station master, in turn, immediately passed the said information to Karjat station master, he said, adding that he had collected the bag from RPF office at Karjat.

Meanwhile, Inspector HK Pathan with staff and a sniffer dog who were checking the empty local for bombs and explosives at Karjat station, found the abandoned bag kept on the rack of the second class compartment and brought to it to RPF office at Karjat.

Confirming the incident, Inspector HK Pathan of Karjat RPF office said, "As soon as we found the bag containing cash and mobile phones, the Karjat station master contacted him to inform him that the bag was belonging to one Akshay Kunjey who lost it in the local during the journey."
