The temple priest, Subhash Brahme, detected the theft in the morning and lodged a complaint with the Manchar police station.

The police said the incident took place between 12.30 am and 1.30 am. “The robbers did not steal the silver padukas and the gold toe rings of the idol. We are examining the case from all angles. It’s the duty of Gram Surakha Dal to provide protection to the temple,” the police added.

A member of the panchayat samiti, Rajesh Patil, claimed that theft cases in temples are on a rise. “There have been six cases of temple robberies in Ambegaon taluka in the recent past,” he said.
