The woman, Shakuntala Patil, a resident of Karve Nagar in Kanjurmarg (E), was waiting for the local train at Kanjurmarg station on Sunday at around 8.15pm to go to Nahur. While she was waiting, an unidentified man approached her said, “Your son is lying drunk at Vikhroli-Goregaon Link Road. I’ll take you there.”

As her son was an alcoholic, she believed him and accompanied him to the spot. However, as soon as they reached there, the man threatened her and forced her to part with her gold earrings. He then fled the spot. The woman screamed for help, but the place was deserted.

She then went home and informed her son, who went with her to lodge a police compaint against the man. “We have registered a case of robbery and cheating against the unknown person and a manhunt has been launched to nab him,” said a police officer of Kurla government railway police station.
