Football is a game of the enthusiastic. With many sport lovers and aspiring players, Navi Mumbai has developed a strong sporting culture. To this phenomenon, Khalsa Football Club from CBD-Belapur was no exception.
Being ardent fans of the sport, the local club members were zealous to organise a weekend rink football tournament. This initiative has been an annual affair for the club for over five years.
"On receiving an overwhelming response in the first year that was 2009, our motivation levels rose and we decided to organise the tournament on an annual basis," said Rahul Walia, one of the organisers. This year there were 42 entries from teams all over Mumbai. The number of entries has only multiplied over the years.
Yashodeep Kulkarni, a participant, said, "Being a short game, football requires you to be swift and that adds fun to the game."
With all the hooting and cheering, the crowd made it a grand event at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in CBD-Belapur.
